Biological Treatment
In Situ
Biological in situ treatment is based on the stimulation of the autochthonous microbiology in the soil and in the groundwater. The supply of oxygen or atmospheric oxygen stimulates the aerobic biological metabolisms. By the increased micro-biological activity biologically degradable organic pollutants are eliminated. The increase of oxygen concentration can be achieved by various processes: Air Sparging(Injection of air) -Bioventing(Injection of air and Extraction of soil vapour with subsequent diffusion of air into the soil body) - Bioslurping (Extraction of free phase by suction with subsequent diffusion of air into the soil body) The later processes are combined with Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE) respectively with Phase Separation.

On-Site
On-Site biological degradation proceeds in reactors. The contaminated groundwater or other waters are pumped into the reactors. Biological degradation is initiated by the injection of air into the reactors or by biological contractors overgrown with microbes. BAUER Environment Group uses a licenced biological contractor plant system BIO-DISK-100 made by its sister company Schachtbau Nordhausen www.schachtbau.de .
